Tickets Available for Amy Tan Omnibus Lecture at Purdue Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Tickets are now available for the second lecture of the 2018–19 Purdue University Fort Wayne Omnibus Lecture Series season, featuring Amy Tan, who will present her lecture titled, "An Evening with Amy Tan." The lecture will take place Wednesday, November 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Auer Performance Hall, located in the Rhinehart Music Center on campus.

Born in the United States to immigrant parents from China, Amy Tan rejected her mother’s expectations that she become a doctor and concert pianist, choosing to write fiction instead. Six of her novels, including The Joy Luck Club and The Kitchen God’s Wife, became New York Times bestsellers.

Her other works include a memoir, two children’s books, and numerous articles for The New Yorker, Harper’s Bazaar, National Geographic, and other magazines. Her writing appears in 35 languages around the world.

Tan has lectured internationally at universities, delivered a TED talk, spoken at the White House, appeared on Sesame Street, and played in a literary garage band with Stephen King, Dave Barry, and Scott Turow to raise money for literacy programs.

The lecture is free to attend but tickets are required. Tickets can be picked up in person Monday–Friday from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Larson Ticket Office, located inside the Athletics Center on campus. Tickets are also available online through the Purdue Fort Wayne Box Office website. A $1 service fee will be charged per ticket for online orders.

The English-Bonter-Mitchell Foundation has been the Omnibus Lecture Series sponsor since its inception in 1995. Media sponsors for the 2018–19 series are WANE TV NewsChannel 15 and 89.1 WBOI News and Diverse Music.
